Florence
is the first stop on this wonderful tour.
Here you can overnight at the Michelangelo campsite, which
is part of our network of campsites. This site is close
to all the city’s main attractions like Ponte Vecchio,
the Uffizi, Palazzo Vecchio, the Cathedral and Baptistery,
Giotto’s Bell Tower, Michelangelo’s statue of David, etc.
|
|
 |
Pisa
is the second stop.
Here you can see Piazza dei Miracoli in all it’s splendour,
echoing Pisa’s strength around the 13th century, in both
trade and military. Moreover, this square host Europe’s
largest collections of marble monuments, made up of the
Cathedral (Duomo), Baptistery, and the Bell Tower, known
as the “Leaning Tower of Pisa”. Very close by is the campsite
Torre Pendente, part of our network

Next on to San Giminiano and Siena.
Known as the Italian Manhattan, San Giminiano is famous
for it’s medieval towers - 13 of the original 70 towers
built in the 12th and 13th centuries are still standing.
Then on to Siena and the Girasole campsite.
The city prospered in past times thanks to it’s advantageous
position on the Via Franchigena, once the main route for
European pilgrims on their way to Rome. It became so rich
and powerful that it even defeated Florence in 1260.
|
|
 |
Then on to Montalcino and Bagno Vignoni Montalcino,
a typical Tuscan medieval town, is made up of buildings
with stone walls and the town gives it’s name to a well
known wine from the area “Brunello di Montalcino”.
A visit to a local vineyard is a most, to get to know
and appreciate the art and dedication behind the making
of the “nectar of the Gods”. Back on the road, head for
Bagno Vignoni for a few days relaxing in the natural thermal
spas.

|
 |
Lastly, the town of Orvieto
perched on top of a hilly outcrop is a backdrop for the
magnificent cathedral which was begun in 1290 and took
300 years to complete.
It is among the greatest of all Italy’s Romanesque-Gothic
cathedrals.
