Verona
World famous for the Roman Arena (AD 30) and Romeo and
Juliet. The Arena is still used today for Opera and classical
music concerts on the warm Summer evenings.
It holds up to 25,000 people. Don’t miss a visit to the
house of Giulietta (Juliet) to see the world’s most romantic
balcony, and write your own love poem on the courtyard
wall.
Also worth seeing are the Castelvecchio castle with it’s
impressive art gallery, the open air market at Piazza
delle Erbe, and the magnificent Renaissance buildings
in Piazza dei Signori.

Lake Garda
The campsite at Sirmione
is close to all the main attractions on the lake. At Sirmione
a fascinating medieval castle, Rocca Scaligera, dominates
the town. Apart from it’s beautiful scenery, Sirmione
is also well known for it’s natural thermal spas used
since Roman times. In fact the Romans built great Summer
villas here to enjoy the thermal spas at their leisure.
Not far from Sirmione are the wonderful Parkland and Gardens
of Sigurta'.
On the eastern lake shore you come across the
charming towns of Lazise
(with Italy’s biggest theme park Gardaland
nearby), Bardolino, Garda, Malcesine
On the western shore you’ll find Desenzano
and Salo’, Mussolini’s last
stand. Close to Salo’ you can visit the Vittoriale,
extravagant house and Gardens of the eccentric poet Gabriele
D’Annunzio. Thanks to the lake’s mild Winters, unusual
for this part of the country, many Mediterranean products
like lemons, oranges, olive oil and vine are cultivated
in the area.

Cities of Bergamo and Brescia
Bergamo is a beautiful hilltop
town mostly made up of medieval and Renaissance buildings
(upper town). The main attractions are Piazza Vecchia,
Cappella Colleoni, and the Galleria dell’Accademia Carrara.
Brescia is Lombardy’s second
city after Milan. It’s archtecture ranges from Roman temples
to the triumphalist Mussolini-era style of the main square,
Piazza Vittoriale. The major sights include the Roman
ruins around Piazza del Foro, the art gallery Pinateca
Civica , and the cathedral (Duomo).

Milan & Pavia
Milan is the business, finance,
fashion and trend capital of Italy. In addition to the
great monuments, such as the 14th century Gothic cathedral
(Duomo), the Renaissance castle (Castello Sforzesco),
the famous opera theatre La Scala (1778), there are a
host of varied and interesting museums, churches and civic
buildings which provide an alluring mix of old and new.
Not to be missed: Leonardo Da Vinci’s “Last Supper”.
The splendid 15th century Charterhouse (Certosa) of Pavia
is the high point of Renaissance architecture in Lombardy.
This highly decorated Carthusian monastery was built over
a 200 year span.
